#MyGATEStory #10 – Ankit Garg (AIR 49 in GATE 2018 EE)
I, Ankit Garg, pursued B.Tech in Electrical Engineering from IIT Jodhpur. In my first attempt in GATE 2017, I secured AIR 613 but this was not enough to bag me a job at PSU or M.Tech. at an old IIT. So I decided to drop for one year and give my best this time. And ultimately it happened, I secured AIR 49 in GATE 2018.
This journey went through many ups and downs.
One thing that kept me motivated all the time was my self confidence and determination towards my goal.
If I talk about my preparation, I always worked in a planned manner. I made a proper schedule about what to read when and how much time should be given to a particular subject. K-test helped me to find out my weak points and it really helped me to improve constantly. Many a time I felt lagging behind my competitors, got very bad rank in tests but it was nothing to stop me. Every time I fought back and solved more and more questions and again gave the test and let me tell you It’s a great feeling when you get more marks in your weaker subjects.
I would advise my juniors first to find out your weak and strong subjects and make a proper time schedule accordingly and strictly follow that. Prepare short notes of every subject covering important formulae and concepts and read them during last days before GATE exam. Talking about distractions, in my opinion there is no need to stop using whatsapp, facebook and all. But one thing you should make sure is whenever you are studying, keep your mobile away from yourself. That would really help you. Make sure not to keep your doubts within you. Discuss them with your friends or faculty members whichever is possible. I would dedicate my success to my family and friends who kept me motivated during my preparation.
Last but not the least “It always seems impossible until it’s done”.
