#MyGATEStory #22 – Dibya Ranjan Sahoo (AIR 44 in GATE 2018 CE)
Hello Everyone. Do you want to know how I got AIR 44 in GATE 2018, CE? Want to know what was my preparation strategy to crack GATE Exam (CE)?
Sit back and relax to know my GATE Story.
I am a B.Tech. graduate in CE from Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology, Sarang (2012-16 batch). This was my 3rd attempt at GATE. My journey started in 2016 when I was the in the final semester of my B.tech. Near my college, no options were available for coaching. So I started self-preparation. In two months of preparation, I could secure AIR 4600. The rank was not good but that gave me confidence that I have capabilities to do better.
So after completing B.Tech. I joined Madeeasy, Bhubaneswar branch in June 2016. The classes were rigorous. I got to clear my basic concepts. This one-year coaching gave me an in-depth knowledge of the subjects. But GATE is not only about knowing the basic concepts and having clear knowledge only, but lots of practice is also required to secure a good rank in GATE. Due to the long hour of classes, I couldn’t get much time to practice. I could only solve previous year questions and a little practice from the test series. But with the knowledge I had and the practice, I could secure AIR 752 in GATE 2017.
While joining madeeasy I was thinking of going towards GATE only but in due course, I decided to go both for ESE and GATE. I had also cleared ESE up to interview round that year but couldn’t make it up to the final list. Also with the GATE score I had, I didn’t get any call from PSUs. But I was confident in myself that I could do better. So I decided to give another try and I decided not to join for M.Tech. because I wanted to dedicate my full time for preparation.
Initially, I felt a little bit low as this was my 2nd year of preparation but my family was very supportive and I somehow handled that. This time I did lots of practice, gave the test series for GATE (CE). By giving the test series properly and analyzing them properly I could easily find out my mistakes and I worked hard to overcome that. This also increased my calculation speed and also my accuracy. Every day I was reading some chapters of at least two subjects so that I wouldn’t forget the previous one while reading the new subjects. This time I was much focused towards ESE but while preparing for ESE, GATE syllabus was easily completed as ESE has a very vast syllabus. The rank I was getting in test series also boosted up my confidence. And this time (GATE 2018, CE) I secured AIR 44! I have also cleared ESE prelims this time and now preparing for mains exam.
During my preparation, I found that a proper strategy is required for getting success. The knowledge base is important but a proper strategy is required to score well. It helps you to complete your syllabus in a short period effectively. So prepare your own strategy and work hard as well as work smart. GATE is not about a single day hard work but it is little efforts every day.
Wish you ALL THE BEST.
