Is GATE The Only Exam For Admission To Post-Graduate (M.Tech.)
Gate or the graduate aptitude test for engineering is an exam that needs to be qualified by the students who are willing to pursue their post graduation courses in the masters of Engineering or the master of technology commonly referred to as an M.E and M.tech respectively. If you are a student who is aspiring to study in reputed engineering Institutions like IIT, NIT and IIIT then you have to attend the GATE examinations. But then, since the qualifying conditions for the gate exams cannot be satisfied by all the students, there are a lot of other private Engineering Institutions which you can enter even without appearing or qualifying the GATE exams. Thus, the importance of gate exams is high for students who want to enter IIT, NIT or IITs. Thus, it can be noted that GATE for M.Tech is not the only exam for admission to the post graduation courses in engineering.
So, what are the other exams that need to be taken up by students of different states in order to be eligible for admissions in other private Engineering Colleges?
1) Karnataka PG-CET
The state of Karnataka conducts the PG-CET which stands for post-graduation common entrance exam which allows the students to get into the reputed engineering colleges in Bangalore. Although, the first preference is given to the students who belong to Karnataka, students coming from other states can also apply for this exam.
The state of Tamilnadu conducts the VITMEE exams which basically designed by the University of Vellore. This exam can be taken up by any student across India since the VIT institutions have been located across different states in India. However, it must be noted that the qualifying percentages for these exams differs from one university to another.
3) SRMJEE PG exams
SRMJEE PG exams are designed and conducted by the SRM University. The students who qualify this exam are eligible to apply for any of the campuses of SRM situated across India.
4) TANCET exams
TANCET exams are conducted by the Anna University located in the state of Tamil Nadu in Chennai. Students aspiring to join the private colleges in Tamilnadu can take up this exam. One drawback of this exam is that it is only limited to the state of Tamil Nadu. Thus, if you want to study in any other institution located in any other state, this exam is not suitable for you.
That was a brief list of some major examinations conducted in different states that allow students to pursue their post-graduation without having to appear or clear the Gate examinations. Remember that the qualifying conditions and the passing percentage of different exams differ from one university to another and from one state to another. So, before applying for the exam it is very important for you to note down all the qualifying conditions in order to be sure that you can clear the exam and get into one of the colleges specified.
