#MyGATEStory #1 – Nikhil Purushwani (AIR 144 in GATE 2018 EE)
I started my preparation in my 3rd year of engineering. I divided all subjects into two categories, looking into previous year pattern. Power systems, Power Electronics, Machines, Analog circuits, signals system into one category and remaining into another category. Those in the first category require a lot of practice and looking at previous year problems from this subjects, problems are often found to be difficult. Hence I concentrated more on this subjects. In my first attempt (GATE 2017) I secured AIR 781 with 55.04 marks.
I found 2017 exam to be difficult as compared to previous years. I committed hell lot of silly mistakes (4.62 Marks), due to which my rank was not as expected. I thought giving it a second chance. In my drop year i focussed on my weak topics- adc and dac, power semicondutor devices, single phase induction, protection, PWM and at the same time i did solve few standard texts. 1 Oppeinheim for signals 2 Rashid for power electronics, for theory ned mohan and nptel lectures for PWM 3 For machines A.E. fitzgerald. 4 For analog circuits sedra smith. 5 Power system stevenson In my third year i already solved rk kanodia(4 volumes) and did not feel to solve it again. During drop year I focussed on problem solving since I was already aware with the theory except few topics.
I joined Kreatryx Kapsule Zetta Plan, Made Easy Test Series and Ace Academy(only full length). My advice to any one preparing for GATE is to refer standard texts(mentioned above) during college so that you can have good grip in theory and then move onto solving problems. This year (GATE 2018) I was lucky to commit less silly mistakes and secured AIR 144 (74.33 marks). In the month of July, I started with Power Systems completed it in 27 days and at the same time practised maths side by side advanced mathematics by erwin kreyszig and previous year maths problems from all branches since syllabus of mathematics is almost common.
For aptitude questions in full length test series are more than enough. Aptitude section of Kreatryx and Made Easy test series is tougher as compared to GATE EE. Test series is very important part of gate preparation. Your marks in test series are very much related to gate actual marks. Try to analyse mistakes in full length tests, write down so that you never repeat the same mistakes. I would like to thank Kreatyx for helping me achieve this rank.
