#MyGATEStory #8 – Sudheer Dhukia (AIR 24 in GATE 2018 EE)
My name is Sudheer. I have completed my B.Tech from IIT Mandi in 2016. First time I appeared for GATE 2016 in my final year and got 52 marks. There was no chance of PSU. After graduation, I went for 6-month project intern at NHAI and I decided to prepare with the internship but could not. I started preparation for GATE 2017 from 15th November from handwritten notes materials available in the market and joined one test series. I read almost all theory from notes but didn’t practice much and attempted 8-10 subject tests only. I got only 42 marks, then I realized that reading only theory is not sufficient but it also needs numerical practice as much as possible.
Again there was no chance of PSU. After one year drop, everyone feels pressure when he/she do not get the job. But no option was available other than preparing for GATE to get a job in PSU.
So again I started my preparation for GATE 2018 in May by self-study. Why I choose self-study? Some of my friends had already taken coaching. They said that they take classes whole day and one cannot get time for revision and practice.
I also thought to prepare for ESE. But this year I had to get a job, I changed my mind to prepare only for GATE. I noticed that I was going very slow. In 2 months, I covered only Network, Control and just started Machines.
I was following all the videos, strategy, study plans of Kreatryx. I got to know that class timing of Kreatryx classroom is 5-6 hrs. If I joined classroom, I’ll get sufficient time for self-study. In July Kreatryx conducted Scholarship test, my friend and I gave that test and joined the June batch from 20th July, till that Network and half of Machines was covered.
20th July was my turning point of GATE 2018 preparation. After joining Kreatryx, I followed only Ankit sir and started preparation with full flow.
This time I focused mainly on numericals. The theory I revised only when I forgot any concept during practice. Material which I followed for practice are Koncept booklets, EE GATE previous year, and for some subjects ECE GATE previous year. Class tests helped me to decide my preparation level and to make strategy according to that. At the end of December, once syllabus was completed by coaching, I started attempting the mock test. I analyzed my performance in each test and tried to rectify those in next test. My score varied from 59-78 in Mock tests. Always try to avoid silly mistakes that will increase your 7-8 marks. In January, I revised all subjects from class notes, Krash materials, gave 2 subject tests each and mock tests. Mock tests play a vital role in last month. I joined Kreatryx test series, I could decide how to attempt if papers are of different level(easy, tough) and how to avoid silly mistakes.
I never followed any standard book. Personally, I feel that if you can cover all theory in class and clear your doubts there itself then why do you need standard books. For numerical practice also I have followed Kreatryx material. They have enough number of quality questions which we can not find even in 2-3 standard books, and also it saves time in that we can practice more.
If your performance is going good, that’s all your motivation. I used to score well in class tests and also my score was good in mock tests. But in the subject test, my score was not as good as in mock tests. If you are lagging in some subject try to sort it out, give some subject tests. Try to reduce mistakes by attempting tests.
Why I said that decision of joining Kreatryx was the turning point for my GATE 2018 preparation because here Ankit sir teaches every subject in such a simpler way and unique way of numerical approach. Before GATE Exam I was confident that I can approach every numerical problem. I would like to dedicate my success to Ankit sir, to my parents for helping me thorough out GATE preparation. I am grateful to Kreatryx team.
